Waste Management in Madiun: Smart City Collaboration Between Nikoil and the Mayor

On July 8, 2025, Nikoil Indonesia sat down with Drs. Maidi, the Mayor of Madiun City, to explore a sustainable path forward for urban development and waste management in Madiun. The discussion took place at Gandaria 8 Office Tower in Jakarta and centered on the urgent environmental issues that modern cities are facing today, including rising waste volumes, climate challenges, and energy demands.

Madiun’s recent transformation under Mayor Maidi’s leadership shows great progress. However, to maintain this momentum, the city must embrace smarter technologies that can scale with urban growth.

To support these needs, Nikoil presented its Waste Destructor, an advanced waste processing solution that uses high-temperature plasma technology. Unlike traditional incinerators, this system does not require waste separation, leaves minimal residue, and operates at 2,000°C, making it far more efficient and cleaner for the environment.

This cutting-edge technology is suitable for both municipal and medical waste and offers scalable capacity ranging from 1 to 150 tons per day. It supports the national agenda on sustainable infrastructure and positions Madiun as a potential pioneer in clean urban innovation.

Mayor Maidi expressed strong interest in making Madiun a pilot city for the Waste Destructor. Beyond that, he proposed turning Madiun into a national training hub for advanced waste management systems. Nikoil is currently reviewing the potential for building a manufacturing plant in the region, thanks to the city’s well-organized industrial zones.

This aligns with Nikoil’s ongoing commitment to supporting regional sustainability goals and helping municipalities modernize their infrastructure. The company has also been engaged with several Indonesian cities through its waste solutions division

The meeting closed with both parties agreeing to perform a deeper technical and business assessment. Madiun’s local government will gather data on daily waste volume, while Nikoil prepares customized proposals for implementation. Both Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models are under consideration.

As a follow-up, both sides plan to meet again in Madiun City to continue the conversation and evaluate real-time waste flow and infrastructure capacity.
